Kristy, we're working on that at my agency now. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of accounting stuff that can be done at home, since confidential/original documents can't leave the office.

But we do have plans at this point for me to do Payroll from home while I'm on maternity leave, and if at all possible, I'll come in to do Accounts Payable (since the original bills & invoices can't leave the office.) Both of those activities occur twice a month and take a full day to complete.

My situation is annoying, but I do know that my boss is working to find ways to let me work from home if necessary. Just isn't terribly much of my job that can be done outside the office. But for now, I skip lunches, work late, and come in early to help make up the time I have to be gone for appointments. And a server install this month should help me build up some comp time as well.

Would it be possible to do some work from home to make up for the time you're missing for your appointments? And maybe your work could let you work part-time from home for part of your maternity leave. Just some random ideas.

Sounds super! Definitely take the 8 weeks even if you need to take unpaid time. I did 8 weeks with both kiddos and no way was I mentally ready to go back at 6 weeks. Ok, so maybe you aren't ever REALLY mentally ready to go back... but 8 weeks is more humane to both mom and baby. It is painful to take unpaid time, but when I look back now it is something I do NOT regret. You won't either. It's worth every penny.

Congrats Sarah on such a great appointment, you are obviously doing everything right! Maybe your baby is determined to give you a surprise, rather than reveal his/her identity ;-)
