Whole New World (18 hours)

We cannot begin to describe the last 18 hours. Our lives have changed irrevocably for the better, and even now we cannot imagine our lives without our little man. (Who still doesn’t have a name.)

Baby is doing great. I’m doing very well, up and around this afternoon with the nurses’ permission. I’m looking forward to a shower later this afternoon. Paul has been incredible with all my needs, and changing diapers and just everything. I am so blessed by both my men.

Nursing is going well. The lactation consultant was in first thing this morning while I was struggling to get the little man to latch on. Her help was invaluable, and he had his longest feed so far.

Our son is peaceful and content. We are besotted. We’ve never known love like this before for each other, or for anyone else. Nothing prepares you for the overwhelming love you feel at that first cry. This has been without a doubt, the best day of our lives.

The vital stats:

  • Born: 6:56pm on Tuesday June 29, 2010 by Cesarean section
  • Weight: 6lb 4oz
  • Length: 19.5″, with an impressive conehead, so we expect him to lose .5 to 1″ (he’s already rounding out nicely today.)
  • Hair: yes, medium brown
  • Eyes: bluish-silvery-green (they’ll fix on something in 6 months or so.)
  • APGARS: 8 and 9
  • Paul has started taking pictures and put a few up in a gallery. We’ll continue to share our journey, but pardon us if we get a little caught up just holding our sweet baby boy this week. In the meantime, please oogle our beautiful son by clicking below.

  1. And now you understand. We all said “love” before, but didn’t really know what it meant. Videotape him a ton during this time – it’ll go so very fast. Love you all.

  2. Congrats to the both of you! It’s a really long, short journey you’ve just embarked on. We wish you all blessings on you both and your little one. Hard to believe it was 12 years since ours was born and that’s pretty much how you knew our young man. Get some rest, you’re gonna need it…

    *hugs*

  3. That point in which that tiny little hand reaches up to grab your finger…….

…..and they never let go. Oh, sure they may physically let go……..but that’s all.

Almost nine years ago a little girl in an incubator grabbed my finger. And now she’s finished 2nd grade.

She hasn’t let go of my finger though.

And now your little boy has grabbed your fingers – and you’ll find he never lets go either. Though the late-night feedings and toxic diapers and mysterious illnesses and first steps and first tumbles and first runs and first words and “why??” and the kids TV shows that eat your brain and first days playing with other kids and that first day at school………

…..you’ll find he’s still there, holding your fingers.

Best wishes – and again, welcome to parenthood.

  4. Congratulations on your gorgeous little man! He is just perfect, and I absolutely can not wait to meet him!!

  5. Adorable!!!!! I can’t wait to meet your little guy! Babies with hair are so cute. Both of mine were bald, which is also cute, just in a different way.

  6. Awwww! He is gorgeous. Love that picture too – it is absolutely perfect. Congratulations!

  7. So incredibly happy for you all. So cute and happy all of you are doing well. Can’t wait for a name.

    Love you all,
    Mikey

  8. Great pictures. In #8 Sarah has the perfect look of “Dude, it’s real we have a baby”. And the overwhelming love shines through.

    Love you,
    Lisa

  9. I believe it was Maya Angelou that stated “decided to have a child, is like deciding to have your heart walk around outside your body. Everything that touch him, touches your heart”. Congrats and enjoy every moment, even the difficult ones. Love you.

  10. Our joy isn’t just in holding our miracle grandson, but in gazing at the two of you, and at the love on your faces and in your hearts for each other and your grand little son. This is our dream come true, for the two of you.
