Dancefloor (12w2d)

It amazes me reading about what’s going on with the critter right now. Mostly because it’s moving around now. And with this week’s ultrasound confirming this fact…. I was amazed watching our baby do somersaults, flip from side to side, kick and wave – and I couldn’t feel any of it.

Some of the pregnancy forums I’m lurking on have women in their first pregnancies saying they’re already feeling the baby move. All the books say I won’t feel anything until at least 16 weeks, and probably not until 20 or 22 weeks because I’m so big already. That’s kinda depressing. I’m sure folks will say that I’ll get sick of being kicked and prodded fairly quickly; but I don’t think I will. I’m trying to really *live* every moment of this pregnancy, because I figure I’ll get told not to have another kid after this. So I wanna get all I can out of this experience.

Just kinda feels weird to know I’m our baby’s personal little dancefloor and I can’t even feel it yet. I’m still taking time every day though to just lay my hands on my belly and connect with the little critter. I’m certain that one of these days I’ll be focusing my thoughts on my little one and I’ll feel a little prod back. Just wish that day would get here sooner.

  1. I was way way late with feeling Skadi. It was quite disconcerting since “they” say you will feel the second earlier knowing what to look for. It has a lot to do with the baby’s position in your uterus as well. Skadi was facing my back, so any of her wiggling was not aimed at my tummy.

Before you know it you will feel the butterfly movements and then the nauseating flips that make you wonder wth they are doing in there! So very exciting!

  2. Wait, what? Nauseating flips? The critter moving around is gonna make me wanna barf? Oh great.

Ah well. It’ll be worth it. I can’t wait to see Paul’s face the first time he feels a kick.

  3. I was big, too, and I felt the Squish at about 15 weeks. You’re looking for a tickle, low, prolly at the bikini line, and from the INSIDE.

And wait until s/he starts to get the hiccups.

  4. Oh yeah! When the critter rolls and pushes your stomach up to your glotis – that’s fun! ;-)

I had to go look, I wasn’t feeling Skadi at 15 weeks, but haven’t seen a post on my blog for when I did start feeling her. I am thinking it was 18-19 weeks actually.

  5. It’s totally awesome as the dad when you feel the baby kick and move. I think I felt Liam kick when Michi was 6 months, and you could really feel him moving at 7 and 8 months.

The experience goes from, “OMG is this happening?” to “OMG this is really happening!”
